Welcome and thank you for joining me this weekend.

Once little talked about subjects, the menopause and perimenopause are finally getting attention. Women no longer have to suffer in silence, feeling confused about what’s happening to their bodies and having a sense of ‘being discarded’.

Women’s health is starting to be taken seriously at last, although more and more research and studies are needed, as well as funding. This week we look at how food can have a beneficial impact in How nutrition can support women through the perimenopause and menopause.

It’s an exciting summer of sport, isn’t it? Wimbledon kept us glued to our screens (and what a Grand Slam it was!) and the Women’s World Cup has just kicked off. Whether it’s Ons Jabeur vs Markéta Vondroušová or the Lionesses battling out on the football pitch, the world is finally paying attention to female athletes. But more must be done. Mhairi Keil, Senior Performance Nutritionist, The UK Sports Institute, and Renee McGregor, Sports Dietitian, Author and co-founder of TRAINBRAVE join the Food Matters Live podcast to discuss The need for more research into nutrition in women’s sport.

Sweeteners have been in the news often of late. They have always divided opinions, but now more than ever ingredient companies are looking to develop healthier, natural options. A couple of weeks ago we interviewed Ambrosia Bio about their new tech which aims to make the production of allulose cheaper and more efficient. Now another foodtech company is looking into a new source to extract a non sugar sweetener – and an unlikely one at that. Find out more in MycoTechnology discovers natural sweetener derived from rare honey truffle.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Stef
